Projects - Pilot Selective Collection

Macapa takes the first steps towards the full implementation of selective collection. The model, a pilot project that meets the requirements of National Policy on Solid Waste, was released on the morning of Tuesday, 07, in the University district. The City of Macapa is responsible for the project, and the responsibility for the environment, aims to enable carapirás guarantee of survival, since the material to be recycled will be delivered so that they do use.

The project is in place since last week. Environmental educators are doing awareness work in the homes, advising on the importance of selective collection, which can be recycled and where it should be packed. Three times a week the car collector goes the neighborhood collecting recycled products to be taken to the landfill, where they will be delivered to carapirás. Educators warn that the collection of household organic waste continues according to schedule.

The Secretary of Urbanization, José Montalverne, explained that the intention is to be collected a ton of reusable materials, and it is expected that by the end of the year the process of selective collection is definitely in active across the capital. He recognizes that the PMM is still being structured for all bins in Macapa. We have only one truck for this purpose, but we had to start the project. Soon the people will get used to separate what can be salvaged, he said.

The pre-collection of materials which can be recycled arrives with positive effect between carapirás. Before the implementation of the landfill and waste sorting José Gomes da Silva, collector for over 10 years at the dump, had to start work at 5am, seeking materials in space and unhealthy risks to your health. Now, the materials have time to come and carapirás may make the selection without risks to health.

“It is extremely important that work on separate collection, our goal is to make the population has the habit of separating what is recyclable and learn to reuse these types of materials,“ said Deputy Mayor Allan Sales, who accompanied the launch.
